Trévignin is a municipality with 776 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the French Savoie department in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the canton of Aix-les-Bains-1 in the Arrondissement of Chambéry .

geography

Trévignin is located at 620  m , near Aix-les-Bains , about 16 kilometers north of the city of Chambéry (as the crow flies). The former farming village extends in the north-west of the Savoie department, on the western edge of the Bauges massif and at the foot of Mont Revard , in a panoramic location on a terrace around 380 m above the lake level of Lac du Bourget .

The area of the 6.89 km² municipal area includes a section in the Alpine foothills. The northern part of the municipality is taken up by the leveling area of Trévignin, which slopes gently to the west and north to the valley of the Sierre . The area is drained by various streams to the Sierre and thus to the Lac du Bourget. To the south, the community area extends over the initially gently, later steeply rising, wooded slope of Mont Revard, which is traversed by several rock bands. At the height of the Tour de l'Angle Est , the highest point of Trévignin is reached at 1562  m . The municipality lies within the Regional Nature Park Massif des Bauges (French: Parc naturel régional du Massif des Bauges ).

In addition to the actual town center, Trévignin also includes several hamlet settlements and farms, including:

  • Le Séminaire ( 600  m ) on the slope east of the village
  • Le Nandrion ( 680  m ) on the slope of Mont Revard
  • Saint-Victor ( 730  m ) on the north slope of Mont Revard

Neighboring municipalities of Trévignin are Grésy-sur-Aix in the north-west, Montcel in the east and Pugny-Chatenod in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, there was a small lordship in Trévignin that owned the lands of Trévignin and Épersy . It was dependent on the Lords of Cessens , who were still under the influence of the Lords of Faucigny in the 14th century before they came under the sovereignty of the Counts of Savoy in 1400 .

From 1892 to 1937 a cogwheel railway connected the town of Aix-les-Bains with the summit of Mont Revard, whose wooded steep slope in the southwest of the municipality was overcome by means of a bend . In this section the railway had a station at an altitude of about 1000  m and several engineering structures still preserved.

Attractions

The parish church of Trévignin dates from the 19th century. There is a chapel in the hamlet of Le Nandrion.

With 776 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Trévignin is one of the small communities in the Savoie department. After the number of inhabitants declined in the first half of the 20th century, a significant increase in population has been recorded since the mid-1970s thanks to the attractive residential area. Since then the number of inhabitants has almost tripled.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Trévignin was a predominantly agricultural village. In addition, there are now various local small businesses. In the meantime the village has developed into a residential community. Many employed people are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area, especially in the Aix-les-Bains and Chambéry areas.

The village is very well developed in terms of traffic. It is located on the D913 departmental road that leads from Aix-les-Bains via Mont Revard to Les Déserts. Other road connections exist with Grésy-sur-Aix and Montcel. The closest connection to the A41 motorway is around 6 km away.

Community partnerships

Trévignin has been related to the German village of Olfen since 1966 , which has been a district of Oberzent ( Odenwaldkreis / Hessen ) since 2018 . This sisterhood is considered to be the smallest municipal partnership of its kind in Europe.
