Largentière Castle

Largentière is a French commune with 1629 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ardèche department . The inhabitants call themselves "Largentiérois".

geography

Largentière is located in the narrow valley of the Ligne , about 15 kilometers from the center of Aubena . The municipality is part of the Monts d'Ardèche Regional Natural Park .

history

Even the Romans mined lead and silver in the Lignetal, hence the name of the place. The mines, some of which are still visible today, were mainly used between the 9th and 15th centuries. In the 19th century, Largentière developed into an industrial city with its own rail connection. In 1982 the railway was shut down.
