Attractions

The volcanism in the Cevennes is present today. The extinct volcano Coupe d'Aizac at 808 meters above sea level, from which one can enjoy a panoramic view of the municipality, testifies to this . He also gave the name to a well-known mineral water called Grande Source du Volcan , which has a good reputation across Europe. There is also a Romanesque church from the 11th century, whose baptismal font and holy water basin date from the 16th and 17th centuries. It was built by the Benedictine monks of Saint-Chauffre du Monastier , who already built the old parish in the hamlet of La Vaine . The Cascade de l'Espissart is also a popular destination, as is the Rocher du Rouvon , which is the highest point in the municipality at 1028 meters.

The place is best known, however, for its castle ruins, on which a new mansion in Renaissance style was built during the Cevennes Wars. It is very visible from the church. In the commune you can also visit the remains of the Saint-Chaffre priory and the Tour de Fougerolles , an old watchtower.
