Le Lac-d'Issarlès is a place and a municipality with 286 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the extreme west of the Ardèche department in southern France in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region .

Le Lac-d'Issarlès is located in the mountain landscape of the Monts d'Ardèche , the southeastern part of the Massif Central , near the upper reaches of the Loire and a good 52 km (driving distance) northwest of Aubenas and approx. 40 km southeast of Le Puy-en- Velay at an altitude of approx. 990 m above sea level. d. Traditionally, the population lived from cattle breeding and a little arable farming on partially terraced fields, which, however, only produced low yields due to the altitude, so that chestnuts often formed the basic supply. Today forestry and tourism play the most important roles in the economic life of the place in the form of the rental of holiday homes ( gîtes ) .

Until 1929, Le Lac-d'Issarlès was part of the large commune of Issarlès ; However, the place had its own parish church since the end of the 19th century - on the initiative of the pastor at the time (curé) .

The continuous decline in the number of inhabitants since the middle of the 20th century is mainly due to the mechanization of agriculture and the associated loss of jobs. In addition, almost all mountain regions in Europe became depopulated in favor of the lower-lying cities.
Attractions
- The single-nave parish church, built in the second half of the 19th century, has a three-part bell gable . The nave is barrel vaulted and completely plastered in white.
- The almost circular crater lake of the lake, which is only 500 m away, is of volcanic origin. It has an area of approximately 97 hectares and a maximum depth of 138 m. The water is clean and is used by bathers and smaller boats.
- There were several caves on the shore of the lake ; one of them has been restored and can be visited.
- Numerous hiking trails in the wooded area are marked and offer beautiful views. One also leads to the Loire, which is only 1 km away.
