Attractions

At the D579 there is a miliarium (Roman milestone) from the 2nd century, on which a Christian cross was grafted in 1717 . It belongs to the municipality and was entered in the supplementary directory of Monuments historiques in 1974 . The miliarium bears an inscription that is illegible. It stood on a Roman road that led along the right bank of the Rhone from Valence ( Valentia ) to Nîmes ( Nemausus ) and Alba-la-Romaine ( Alba Helviorum ). This Roman road is called Voie d'Antonin or Voie Helviens (Way of Antoninus, Way of the Helvetii) in French . It partly corresponds to the D579.

In 1941 archaeological excavations were carried out on the parcel of Le Monastier , during which a medieval necropolis was discovered. Further excavations in 1979 uncovered the remains of a Romanesque church that belonged to a priory that in turn belonged to the monastery of Saint-Victor in Cruas . The foundations of a small Carolingian building were found below the ruins of the church . An inscription says that the priory was founded by a Viscount Maubert. The age of the tablet is controversial, it could be from the 10th, 11th or 12th century. Near the ruins is a wash house ( lavoir ) that was restored a few years ago.

In the Urbain-Thévenon Museum finds from the excavations are shown, including clay vessels from the necropolis and the baptismal font from the priory.
