Darbres is a French mountain village with 248 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Ardèche in the Region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the Berg et Coiron municipal association .

geography

Darbres is located in the so-called Pays de Villeneuve de Berg between the Ardèche valley and the Plateau du Coiron , in the Massif Central on the upper reaches of the Auzon River , 22 kilometers northwest of Montélimar and 10 kilometers northeast of Aubenas . The municipality covers 1652 hectares, the mean height is 609 meters above sea ​​level , the Mairie stands at an altitude of 457 meters.

Darbres is assigned to a type Cfb (according to Köppen and Geiger ) climate zone : warm, moderate rainy climate (C), fully humid (f), warmest month below 22 ° C, at least four months above 10 ° C (b). There is a maritime climate with a moderate summer.

history

Darbres was first mentioned in a document in the second half of the 10th century. During excavations, prehistoric finds were made, which prove that the municipality was inhabited as early as the Neolithic Age (about 5500-4500 BC).

At the beginning of the 19th century, the population increased sharply. After 1846, the population fell almost continuously until 1982.

Attractions

The neo-Gothic church of Saint-Accons was built in the 19th century. It is dedicated to Arconce, who was Bishop of Viviers in the 8th century . An older church of the same name was mentioned in an arbitration award from the Archbishop of Vienne in 1289 .

The Moulinage de Darbres , a former silk processing facility, is a testament to Darbres ' industrial past . It was built in 1812. When it was still in operation, it employed 70 workers and Darbres had 800 residents. After the First World War (1914–1918) the plant was closed. Today it is used as a holiday hostel for children.

economy

The image of the community is characterized by forest and pastures. Important occupations of the Darbrois (residents) are trade and agriculture (fruit growing, viticulture, sheep, goat and cattle breeding). There is a cheese factory that can be visited. Another line of business is tourism. There is a restaurant and two campsites with a swimming pool and tennis court.

Local products

In the municipality, there are controlled designations of origin (AOC) for Picodon and sweet chestnuts (Châtaigne d'Ardèche) as well as protected geographical indications (IGP) for sausage (Saucisson de l'Ardèche) , ham (Jambon de l'Ardèche) and wine (Ardèche , Comtés Rhodania and Méditerranée) . The cattle from which Fin gras du Mézenc is made are fed with hay grown on the mountains of a certain area. The ham Jambon de l'Ardèche is rubbed with salt, pepper and spices and cured. During its seven-month ripening phase, it is coated with a mixture of lard , spices and chestnut flour.
