Attractions

  • The medieval old town including the city fortifications was in decline for many years and has been renovated in recent years. It is located below a formation of basalt lava columns that belong to the Plateau du Coiron.
  • Above the plateau are the remains of two castles that were destroyed in the Wars of Religion in 1628. One belonged to the Catholic Laroche, the other to the Protestant Arlempde de Mirabel.

With the exception of a few walls, only a black donjon on an almost square floor plan with external dimensions of 6.85 x 7.40 meters has been preserved, which can be seen from afar.

Agriculture

Olivier de Serres

The agrarian reformer Olivier de Serres (1539–1619) lived in Mirabel . His estate "Domaine du Pradel" is still in operation today and houses a museum.

Eye stones

art

From 1981 to 2004, Mirabel was the annual meeting place for East and West European artists, especially from Poland, Hungary, Italy, Germany and France.

The many stones lying around in the village are also the starting point for the global art project World Eye - The Path of Stones .
