Cellier-du-Luc is a French municipality with 77 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Ardèche in the Region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . The inhabitants are called Lucocellariens and Lucocellariennes .
geography
The municipality is located in the middle of the Hochcevennen in the far west of the department, in a small valley on the border with the Allier department . The place borders on the neighboring municipalities of Langogne and Saint-Étienne-de-Lugdarès , the next largest city is Mende in the Lozère department , 36 kilometers away. The rivers Allier and Espézonnette cross the remote and sparsely populated municipal area.
history
Cellier-du-Luc is in German translated pantry Luc . This refers to the neighboring municipality of Luc in the Lozère department, whose inhabitants in earlier times founded a small, remote settlement at a safe distance from the town in the heights of the Cevennes, in order to create enough food reserves for wars and poor harvests. From this the present-day community Cellier-du-Luc developed over time.
In the Middle Ages, the small settlement was therefore jointly administered by the diocese of Viviers , a sub-delegation of Bas-Vivarais and the Ballei of Villeneuve-de-Berg .

Culture and sights
Cellier-du-Luc is home to a small Gothic-style church that was built there in the 19th century and is known for its differently designed facade made of gneiss, basalt and pozzolan . The town also has a medieval bridge and an old stone oven that is still used today for baking bread. It is the last remaining relic for the function of the community as a storage facility for the surrounding villages.
