Culture and sights
The parish of La Souche has been occupied since the 12th century, but was dependent on Jaujac. The original church was built in the mid-14th century when La Souche split from Jaujac. The church was dedicated to Saint New Year's Eve and Saint Salvator of Horta . Since the church was felt to be too small, it was rebuilt in 1504. The current church was built in 1870 and restored from 1968 to 1970. Behind the main altar there is a statue of Christ made of olive wood.
The church in the hamlet of Saint-Louis was built in 1871 and restored in the 20th century. At the beginning of the 19th century, Saint-Louis had two schools and was more populated than it is today.
In the hamlet of Charaix there is still a tower of the Charay Castle ( French Château de Charay ), which was built in the 16th century.
The La Croix-de-Bauzon ski station is located in the municipality .
economy
The image of the community is characterized by pastures, forests, fruit trees and vineyards. Local products are cherries, raspberries, cranberries and chestnuts . An important line of business for the Souchois (residents) is the breeding of domestic sheep and domestic goats . The transhumance on the Tanargue takes place in June.
