The Lande river grazes the municipality, which is characterized by many scattered hamlets over a large area. history
Prehistoric settlements in Le Gay and numerous relics and daüs indicate a settlement of the area by humans since ancient times.
In 1928 it was the noble family around Pierre d'Ailhon who sold a fortress next to the Château de Mirabel and thus gave the village its name.
As a result of the wars of religion between 1586 and 1591, the place suffered heavy losses. All that remained of the fortress was a tower in the south of the village.
In 1670, Ailhon took part in the Roure revolt , provoked by a false rumor about tax increases: the rebels were defeated by the king's army on the plain of Lavilledieu and Roure and then sentenced to bicycle torture.
The unrest after the revolt allowed the band of robbers of Fourriquet de Chassiers, who was executed in May 1800, to exploit the area.

Attractions
Ailhon is a picturesque village with antique houses made of gray sandstone. The Château de Rochemure in particular is a popular destination. The Saint-André church , which was built in the 12th century, is particularly known for its numerous colored window glasses. A representation of Christ made of multicolored wood was placed under monument protection. The building was restored and modified several times in the 15th and 16th centuries. In the churchyard there is still an elm planted in 1593 on the instructions of Maximilien de Béthune, duc de Sully , for the ceremonial accession of Henry IV to the Catholic Church.
The hamlet of Daüs, which was already settled by the Celts, still has finds from Germanic peoples and has therefore always been of particular interest to archaeologists.
