Sampzon is a French municipality with 228 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Ardèche, in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . The Rocher de Sampzon , a 381 meter high cone hill with a high transmission mast, is visible from afar . This mountain is also the symbol of the Roman Catholic parish of Saint-Martin du Sampzon in the Viviers diocese .

Sampzon is located in southern France on the right bank of the Ardèche , 98 kilometers northeast of Montpellier , about 13.5 kilometers south of Largentière , the seat of the sub-prefecture of the arrondissement , and 4.4 kilometers west of Vallon-Pont-d'Arc , the capital of the Canton and its municipal association Gorges de l'Ardèche , at an average altitude of 267 meters above sea level . The Mairie stands at a height of 120 meters. Neighboring communities of Sampzon are Ruoms in the north, Pradons in the northeast, Salavas in the southeast, and Grospierres in the southwest. The municipality has an area of 839 hectares.

Culture and sights
The parish of Saint-Martin du Sampzon has 13 churches and 10 parishes. Saint Martin of Tours is the patron saint of the Saint-Martin church in Sampzon . The original building was a Romanesque chapel, of which only the 11th century choir remains . The church was rebuilt several times. A rectory was added in 1714 and the entrance was rebuilt in 1836. The church tower was built in 1846 and was struck by lightning in 1964, which is why it was renewed in 1966.
