The diocese Viviers ( Latin Dioecesis Vivariensis , French Diocèse de Viviers ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in France with its seat in Viviers (Ardèche) .
history
The diocese was founded in the nearby Roman town of Alba in the 4th century and moved to Viviers in the late 5th or early 6th century. It was secularized during the French Revolution . After its area had been added to the diocese of Mende , it was detached from this again on October 6, 1822 and re-established as an independent diocese within the ecclesiastical province of Lyon .
