The in France located Diocese of Chalons ( lat. : Dioecesis Catalaunensis ) was founded in the 4th century. In 1801 the diocese of Meaux was taken over, and on October 6, 1822 it was re-established in the Archdiocese of Reims .

The bishopric is Châlons-en-Champagne , until 1998 Châlons-sur-Marne, in northeastern France in the historic Champagne region . Châlons is the capital of the Marne department and has 48,400 inhabitants.
