The Roman Catholic Diocese of Chartres ( Latin Dioecesis Carnutensis , French Diocèse de Chartres ) is an in France situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Chartres .
history
The Diocese of Chartres was established in the 3rd century and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Sens as a suffragan . On October 20, 1622, the Diocese of Chartres was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Paris as a suffragan. The Diocese of Chartres gave up on June 25, 1697 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Blois . On November 29, 1801, the Diocese of Chartres was dissolved and the area was incorporated into the Diocese of Versailles . The Diocese of Chartres was re-established on October 6, 1822 by Pope Pius VII with the Apostolic Constitution Paternae charitatis . On December 16, 2002, the Diocese of Chartres was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Tours as a suffragan.
