The Roman Catholic Diocese of Nîmes ( lat. : Dioecesis Nemausensis ) is in France located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Nîmes .
history
The diocese was established in the 5th century and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Narbonne as a suffragan . In 1694 the diocese of Nîmes gave up parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Alès . On November 29, 1801, the Diocese of Nîmes was dissolved and the area was incorporated into the Diocese of Avignon . The diocese of Nîmes was re-established on October 6, 1822 by Pope Pius VII with the Apostolic Constitution Paternae charitatis . On April 27, 1877, the diocese of Nîmes was again subordinated to the Archdiocese of Avignon as a suffragan, since December 16, 2002 to the Archdiocese of Montpellier .
