The diocese of Annecy ( Latin Dioecesis Anneciensis , French Diocèse d'Annecy ) located in France and Switzerland (the Valais municipality of Saint-Gingolph belongs to the Diocese of Annecy) was separated from the Archdiocese of Chambéry on February 22, 1822 and made independent. Still subordinate to this as a suffragan, it originally belonged to the diocese of Geneva and was the residence of the Geneva bishops.
On December 16, 2002, Pope John Paul II subordinated it to the Archdiocese of Lyon as a suffragan .
