The Roman Catholic Diocese of Nevers ( Latin Dioecesis Nivernensis , French Diocèse de Nevers ) is an in France situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Nevers .

history

The diocese was established in the 4th century and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Sens as a suffragan . On November 29, 1801, the diocese of Nevers was dissolved and its territory was annexed to the Archdiocese of Bourges , but on October 6, 1822 it was restituted by Pope Pius VII with the Apostolic Constitution Paternae charitatis . On December 16, 2002, the diocese of Nevers was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Dijon as a suffragan seat.

A criminal case against the incumbent local Bishop Thierry Brac de la Perriere , Cardinal Philippe Barbarin and Archbishop Maurice Gardes for covering up sexual abuse was opened on January 7 of 2019.
