The diocese of Beauvais ( Latin Dioecesis Bellovacensis , French Diocèse de Beauvais ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in France with its seat in Beauvais , which extends over the area of the Oise department . In March 2010, Jacques Benoit-Gonnin was appointed bishop to succeed Jean-Paul James .
history
Saint Lucianus is considered the first bishop and founder of the diocese in the 3rd century . The Bishop of Beauvais was one of the Pairs of France in the Middle Ages . As a result of the French Revolution , the diocese was dissolved in 1801 and added to the diocese of Amiens . In 1822 it was rebuilt, with the areas of the Diocese of Noyon and the Diocese of Senlis being incorporated. In 1851 it was therefore renamed the Beauvais (-Noyon- Senlis ) diocese . The Saint Pierre Cathedral in Beauvais became the bishopric.
