History and sights
Several dolmens are evidence of a settlement in the municipality of Vinezac in the Neolithic period .
The Committee for Tourism of the departments of Ardèche Vinezac awarded in 2001 the title of Village de Caractère ( 'village of character') because of its vines , its houses made of red sandstone and its monumental , Romanesque church. The Church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Annonciation ( ' Annunciation ') was built in the 12th century. It was classified as a Monument historique (historical monument) in 1907. In the church there is also a listed bas- relief from the Middle Ages depicting Daniel in the lions' den.
There are three castle ruins in Vinezac. The castle in the south of the municipality is also called château Julien . Their donjon was built towards the end of the 12th or beginning of the 13th century. In addition, the remains of two towers from the late Middle Ages have been preserved. Today the castle is used as an épicerie and is also the seat of the municipal association Syndicat mixte du Pays de l'Ardèche méridionale . To the east of it is the former theater.
The centrally located Renaissance castle château de Charbonne was bought by the community as it threatened to collapse. It has been restored and now serves as a hotel-restaurant.
Only ruins remain of the castle château de la Motte in the north of the municipality. It was part of the medieval fortification ring around Vinezac. It owes its name to the former owners, the La Motte family .
