Pierrelatte is a municipality with 13,496 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in France 150 km south of Lyon . It is located in the Drôme department ( Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes ). Pierrelatte is the westernmost municipality in the Drôme department. Since 1962, the population has increased from 4,251 to 1968 to 9,757. This stagnated until 1975, then grew steadily until it reached 11596 in 1982. This number only increased slightly until 1999.

Nearby is one of the largest nuclear plants in the world, the Tricastin nuclear plant , which is operated by the French state-owned companies Areva and Électricité de France (EdF) and consists of several areas, including a nuclear power plant with four reactor blocks , two uranium enrichment plants and a uranium conversion plant.

Pierrelatte is on the Paris – Marseille railway line .
