Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux is a commune in southern France , in the Drôme department . The city has 8937 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and is located in the canton of Le Tricastin in the Nyons arrondissement .

geography

Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux is located in the Provencal part of the Drôme department, in the extreme south of which it is located. In the west there is a side canal of the Rhone and the Tricastin nuclear power plant . In the east and south, the place is surrounded by wooded or cultivated hills.

etymology

Originally the place was called Saint-Paul-en-Tricastin . Tricastin was later understood as the Latin expression for Trois-Châteaux (three castles).
