The population decline in the first half of the 20th century is mainly due to the loss of jobs as a result of the phylloxera crisis and the mechanization of agriculture . The population increase in recent decades, on the other hand, is related to the relative proximity to the city of Bollène and the significantly lower property prices in the countryside.

economy

The vineyards of the place are in the wine-growing area of the southern Rhône valley . The wines may be marketed under the designations of origin Comtés Rhodaniens , Côtes du Rhône , Côtes du Rhône Villages , Drôme and Méditerranée . Wine tourism also plays an important role in the local economy.

history

The medieval manorial rule ( seigneurie ) was initially with the princes of Orange; then at the Bouchet Cistercian abbey founded by Raimund I von Les Baux in the 12th century , which - repeatedly haunted by robbery gangs - was later subordinated to the Aiguebelle monastery . In the Huguenot Wars of the second half of the 16th century, the place and monastery were devastated by the Protestants .

Attractions

  • Only a few parts of the former abbey have survived , including the extremely simple apse-free church. A renaissance portal with a shell niche and decorative obelisks from the 16th century is remarkable . Two rooms, including the former dormitory from the 13th century, were recognized as a monument historique as early as 1932 .
  • With the exception of the neoclassical facade , the chapel Saint-Sébastien was built of rubble stone and dates from the 17th century. It was recognized as a Monument historique in 1972 .
  • There is a roofed wash house ( lavoir ) in the village .
