Pierrelongue is a French commune in the Drôme department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region with 217 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). The landmark of the place is the Basilica Notre-Dame de la Consolation in the center, which is located on a rock high above the place.
The municipality is located 25 kilometers northeast of Carpentras in the valley of the upper Ouvèze , which is quite narrow here. To the north of the Ouvèze valley, mountains up to 650 meters high rise, and the Mont Ventoux massif rises ten kilometers southeast of Pierrelongue .
The community goes back to mentions in the 12th and 13th centuries. At that time the Abbey of Saint-André de Villeneuve-lès-Avignon owned lands in the vicinity of Pierrelongue.
Until its closure in 1953, Pierrelongue had a station on the Orange-Buis-les-Baronnies railway . Some remains of this former route can still be seen near Pierrelongue. The regional road D5, which connects Buis-les-Baronnies with Vaison-la-Romaine , runs through the village .
