location

The place Plaisians is located on a mountain flank at the end of a remote valley in the southwest of the Drôme department, near the border with the Vaucluse department at an altitude of about 640  m ; the next larger cities, Nyons and Carpentras , are around 35 km (driving distance) northwest and 45 km southwest respectively.

The population decline at the end of the 19th and in the first half of the 20th century is mainly due to the remote location of the place and the loss of jobs as a result of the phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the mechanization of agriculture .

economy

The inhabitants of the place lived for centuries as a self-sufficiency from agriculture (agriculture and cattle breeding). Wine was also grown; the place still has the right to market its grapes through the Appellations Comtés Rhodaniens , Coteaux des Baronnies , Mediterranée and Drôme ; There are still vineyards in the area around the village, but there is only one vintner in the village. Since the last decades of the 20th century, tourism has played an important role in the economic life of the place in the form of renting holiday apartments ( gîtes ) .

history

The place is first mentioned in the 13th century. Guillaume de Plaisians , an adviser to Philip the Fair , came from here.

  • The single-nave parish church of Saint-Blaise was restored a few years ago.
  • The remains of a medieval castle can still be seen on the mountain above the village.
outside
  • The Saint-Roch chapel with its simple bell gable belongs to the hamlet of Les Girards and dates from the 16th century.
