Séderon ( Occitan : Sederon ) is a place and a community with 264 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Drôme in the southern French region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
location
The place Séderon is on the river Méouge at an altitude of about 820 m in the southeast of the Drôme department; the small town of Nyons is around 54 km (driving distance) in a north-westerly direction.

The continuous decline in population is mainly due to the remote location of the place and the loss of jobs as a result of the mechanization of agriculture .
economy
The inhabitants of the place lived for centuries as a self-sufficiency from agriculture (agriculture and cattle breeding). Wine was also grown; The place still has the right to market its grapes through the Appellations Comtés Rhodaniens , Coteaux des Baronnies , Mediterranée and Drôme ; but because of the altitude, wine is hardly grown any more. Instead, there are olive, apricot, cherry and apple trees to a lesser extent; there are also numerous lavender fields . Since the last decades of the 20th century, tourism has played an important role in the economic life of the place in the form of renting holiday apartments ( gîtes ) .
history
Séderon is one of the places in the historical region of the baronnies who later came to the Dauphiné and to the sphere of influence of the noble family Les Baux , who joined the Reformed Church at the time of the rise of Protestantism .
On August 10, 1944, the place was bombed by the Air Force due to activities of the Resistance , killing seven people, injuring others and causing serious damage to property.
Attractions
- The neo-Romanesque parish church built in the 19th century is dedicated to St. Consecrated to Baudilius of Nîmes . The bell tower, supported by buttresses, with a rose window made up of seven six-pass hatches of equal size , is surmounted by a pointed helmet . The interior of the single-nave church shows a cycle of wall frescoes with scenes of the Passion of Christ . The baroque altarpiece shows the scene of the crucifixion of Christ ; above it is a statue of St. Baudelius me martyr's palm .
- On the outskirts there is a roofed wash house ( lavoir ) from the 19th century.
