history

In the 8th century as villa Orsiano , mentioned in 1507 as orcinassium , the place name is likely to be derived from the Latin ursinus , bear. The inhabitants are called Orcinassois .

Originally a fief of the Comtes de Valentinois , it fell to the Lords of Mirabel-en-Diois in 1342 and to Jean de Clion in 1541 . In 1640 it was owned by the Lattier family .
