Comps is a French municipality with 156 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes in the department of Drôme ; it belongs to the canton of Dieulefit in the arrondissement of Nyons .
geography
Comps is located at an average altitude of 680 meters above sea level , seven kilometers northeast of Dieulefit and 34 kilometers east of Montélimar . The Jabron flows through the village , along with two of its tributaries, the Rimandoule and the Ruisseau de Luzerne .
history
The oldest written mentions of Comps as Castrum de Cums come from 1210 and 1293 (Castrum de Combis) . In the Middle Ages Comps was a fortress of the Counts of Valentinois , later it became Vesc , then subordinated to the House of De Moreton de Chabrillan . Their inhabitants are called Compsois or Compsoises .
