Aubres is a french commune with 421 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Drome region, in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the canton of Nyons et Baronnies and to the municipal association Baronnies en Drôme Provençale .
geography
Aubres is located on the banks of the Eygues in the south of the Drôme department, about 56 kilometers northeast of Avignon and 2.8 kilometers northeast of Nyons , the seat of the sub-prefecture of the Nyons arrondissement at an average altitude of 744 meters above sea level . The Mairie and the main part of the municipality are, however, in the Ravin de Suffie valley at an altitude of 290 meters. Neighboring communities are Les Pilles and Châteauneuf-de-Bordette . The municipal area has an area of 20.27 square kilometers.
Aubres is assigned to a climate zone of type Cfb (according to Köppen and Geiger ): warm, moderate rainy climate (C), fully humid (f), warmest month below 22 ° C, at least four months above 10 ° C (b). There is a maritime climate with a moderate summer.
history
The place name Aubres is pronounced aoubré and thus corresponds to the Provencal pronunciation of the French word arbre , 'tree'. The Vieux Village ('old village') dates from the Middle Ages .
In 1793, Aubres received the status of a municipality in the course of the French Revolution (1789-1799) and in 1801 the right to local self-government through the administrative reform under Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) .

Economy and Infrastructure
Formerly that was farming the main industry in Aubres, especially the livestock of sheep and goats , cereals and olive trees for oil production . Silkworms were also raised on a small scale . Then fruit growing , especially the cultivation of cherries and apricots , as well as viticulture was intensified . Despite the severe frost in the winter of 1956, olive cultivation was able to survive. For some years now, the number of farmers who make a living from agriculture has declined.
The population growth is due to the semi-industrial, artisanal and tourist businesses, especially gravel production , painters and varnishers , tilers , plumbers , restaurants and the campsite .
There is a public primary school in Aubres.
