Montaulieu is a place and a community with a population of 83 (as at 1st January 2017) in the department of Drôme in the southern French region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (before 2016 Rhône-Alpes ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Nyons and the canton of Nyons et Baronnies (until 2015 Nyons ).

Montaulieu is located about 53 kilometers northeast of Avignon on the Eygues , which borders the municipality in the northeast. Montaulieu is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Les Pilles in the north and north-west, Curnier in the north-east, Arpavon in the east, Rochebrune in the south and south-east, Bénivay-Ollon in the south and south-west and Châteauneuf-de-Bordette in the west and south-west.
