Post Track
The Post Track ( German "Pfostenweg" ) is a Neolithic wooden footbridge in the valley of the River Brue, in the Somerset Levels in Somerset in England . It comes from the year 3838 BC. And is about 30 years older than the neighboring Sweet Track . Various sections have been protected as Scheduled Monument .
The Somerset Levels are wetlands and peatlands. The conditions of such areas can lead to the conservation of organic materials. Dugout canoes , wooden artifacts and structures as well as the two well-preserved Iron Age villages Glastonbury and Meare with the Meare Heath Track and Abbot's Way were found in the levels .
The wooden path was constructed from long ash boards with lime and hazel posts at intervals of three meters. The path follows in close line with the Sweet Track; before the planks were dated, it was suspected that it served as a building platform for the Sweet Track. It is believed that it led to places of spiritual importance. The footbridge was probably planned as a permanent facility, as the route was maintained, repaired and replaced when it was rotted. Some wood planks were reused in the Sweet Track, which made dating more complicated.
