Montferrand-la-Fare is part of the Nyons arrondissement and the Nyons et Baronnies canton ( Rémuzat until 2015 ).

Montferrand-la-Fare is located about 80 kilometers south-east of Valence in the Baronnies Provençales Regional Nature Park . Montferrand-la-Fare is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Rosans in the north, Saint-André-de-Rosans in the northeast, Roussieux in the east and southeast, Saint-Auban-sur-l'Ouvèze in the south, and Saint-Sauveur-Gouvernet in the southeast as well Lemps in the west.
