Portes-en-Valdaine lies on the edge of Provence in the Valdaine plain . The Jabron forms the northern boundary of the municipality. Portes-en-Valdaine is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Bégude-de-Mazenc in the north and east, Aleyrac in the south and south-east, Montjoyer in the south and south-west, La Touche in the west and La Bâtie-Rolland in the north-west.
