Tzath
Tzath was king of Lasika in the first half of the 6th century.
After the death of his father in 521/22, Tzath traveled to Constantinople to the Eastern Roman imperial court. There he was kindly received by Justin I and baptized in the Christian faith, with the emperor as godfather. Justin solemnly installed him as King of Lasika, thereby deliberately ignoring the claims to rule of the Sassanid Empire , Rome's great rival in the east, in this room. Justin gave him rich gifts and married him to the noble Roman Valeriana.
In the subsequent Roman-Persian hostilities , Tzath sought the support of Ostrom and turned to Emperor Justinian I for help in 528 . In the late antique sources, however, Tzath is no longer mentioned. His eldest son Gubazes II succeeded him.
