geography
Doucy-en-Bauges is located at 900 m , about 24 kilometers northeast of the prefecture of Chambéry and 24 kilometers south of the city of Annecy (as the crow flies). The mountain village extends in the north-west of the Savoie department, in the center of the Bauges massif , in the valley of the Ruisseau du Grand Nant (side stream of the Chéran ), between the mountain peaks of Mont Julioz in the west and Mont Trélod in the east.
The area of the municipal area of 12.65 km² includes a section of the solid mass of the Bauges. The area is drained from the Ruisseau du Grand Nant in a steadily sloping valley to the south to the Chéran. In the west the valley is flanked by the sharp mountain ridge of Mont Julioz ( 1673 m ). The northern border lies in the area of the Golet de Doucy saddle ( 1329 m ), which leads to the catchment area of the Ruisseau de Bellecombe . To the east, the municipality extends to the ridge of the Montagne du Charbon (in the Dent des Portes 1932 m ) and the limestone summit of Mont Trélod, on which the highest point of Doucy-en-Bauges is reached at 2176 m . The western slope of this mountain range has a striking rock face.
In addition to the actual town center, Doucy-en-Bauges also includes various hamlet settlements and farms (all in the Grand Nant valley), including:
- Doucy lingerie ( 880 m )
- Magnoux ( 920 m )
- La Chapelle ( 950 m )
- Le Cul du Bois ( 1040 m )
Neighboring municipalities of Doucy-en-Bauges are Bellecombe-en-Bauges in the north, Chevaline in the east, Jarsy and La Compôte in the south and Le Châtelard in the west. The municipality lies within the Regional Nature Park Massif des Bauges (French: Parc naturel régional du Massif des Bauges ).
history
Doucy-en-Bauges was first mentioned in a document in 1090 under the name Dulciacum . Later, the names Dolciacum (1215) and Parrochia Douciaci (1432) appeared. The place name goes back to the Gallo-Roman personal name Dulcius and means something like estate of Dulcius . From the Middle Ages to the end of the Ancien Régime , when Savoy was annexed by the French Republic, Doucy was part of the Bauges rule. In 1933 the official name of Doucy was changed to Doucy-en-Bauges to avoid confusion with the town of Doucy in the Tarentaise .
