history

La Motte was first mentioned in the 11th century. The place name is derived from the old French word mothe , which means a fortified hill. In the Middle Ages and the Ancien Régime , La Motte was a small lordship that was under the lords of Le Châtelard until the beginning of the 17th century. As part of these lands, the place came in 1689 to the Marquisat des Bauges in Lescheraines. With the Treaty of Turin and the annexation of the Duchy of Savoy to France in 1860, the municipality became part of the newly created department of Savoie.

Attractions

The village church of La Motte-en-Bauges was built in the 19th century. Furthermore, the Manoir des Cerises and the hamlet of Noiray with its characteristic houses in the Savoyard style should be mentioned.
