history

Church Saint-Maurice on the edge of the campus of the University of Savoy

The parish of Jacob can be found for the first time on maps of the diocese of Grenoble from the 11th and 12th centuries. Bellecombette, however, belonged to the parish of Montagnole until 1497 the two places were merged. In the 19th century, the Saint-Maurice church was replaced by a new building in neo-Gothic style. After Savoy was annexed to France in 1860, Jacob-Bellecombette first belonged to the canton of Chambéry-Sud, then from 1873 to the canton of La Ravoire , from 1985 to the canton of Cognin and from 2015 to the canton Chambéry-2.

From 1863 to 1993, limestone was quarried in Montagnole on the border with Bellecombette, which was first processed in Cognin and later into cement on site. The quantities of material were transported through Jacob-Bellecombette, a cog railway operated from 1912 to 1924 and a material ropeway from 1924 to 1963.
