La Chavanne is about 14 kilometers southeast of Chambéry and about 48 km north-northeast of Grenoble . The Isère delimits the municipality to the north and west. Neighboring municipalities of La Chavanne are Montmélian in the north and west, Planaise in the east and northeast, and Sainte-Hélène-du-Lac in the south and east.

The A43 autoroute runs through the municipality .
