La Chapelle-du-Mont-du -Chat is a French municipality with 257 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . The municipality is assigned to the Arrondissement of Chambéry and the canton of La Motte-Servolex .

geography

La Chapelle-du-Mont-du-Chat is located at 600  m , about 17 kilometers north-northwest of the city of Chambéry (as the crow flies). The village extends in the northwest of the Savoie department, in a panoramic position on a terrace almost 400 m above the lake level of Lac du Bourget , about across from Aix-les-Bains , on the eastern slope of Mont de la Charvaz .

The area of ​​the 7.08 km² large municipal area (excluding the lake) includes a section on the west bank of Lac du Bourget. The lakeshore line is around six kilometers long, with long stretches of the bank sloping steeply into the lake and only accessible in a few places. From the lakeshore, the community area extends westward over the steep slope and the narrow but elongated terrace of La Chapelle-du-Mont-du-Chat to the adjacent wooded ridge of the Mont de la Charvaz , on which the highest point in the community reaches at 1005  m becomes. In the south, the demarcation is in the area of ​​the Col du Chat pass .

The municipality of La Chapelle-du-Mont-du-Chat was settled very early, as ceramic fragments from the time of the Allobrogians and Roman coins were found here. In the late Middle Ages, the village was called Mont-du-Chat and La Chapelle-Mont-du-Chat .

Attractions

The current village church of Saint-Antoine was built in the 19th century. On a hill high above the lake, the Notre-Dame de l'Étoile votive chapel (19th century) stands on the site of the former parish church. Old houses in the typical Savoyard style have been preserved in the village.

With 257 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), La Chapelle-du-Mont-du-Chat is one of the small communities in the Savoie department. After the population fell sharply in the first half of the 20th century, there has been a significant increase in population since the mid-1990s thanks to the beautiful residential area.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, La Chapelle-du-Mont-du-Chat was a predominantly agricultural village. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime the village has turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work mainly in the Aix-les-Bains and Chambéry area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Le Bourget-du-Lac to Saint-Pierre-de-Curtille. Another road connection is via the Col du Chat with Yenne . The closest connection to the A41 motorway is around 15 kilometers away.
