Conjux is located at 258 m , about 26 kilometers north-northwest of the prefecture of Chambéry and 27 kilometers west-southwest of the city of Annecy (as the crow flies). - La Chatière ( 231 m ) on the banks of Lac du Bourget, adjoining the village to the north
Neighboring communities of Conjux are Chindrieux in the north, Saint-Pierre-de-Curtille in the south and Chanaz in the west.
history
The municipality of Conjux was settled very early. Remains of a pile dwelling settlement from the late Bronze Age have been discovered on the lakeshore near the small harbor . Classified as Monument historique since 2011 , dendrochronological investigations determined felling dates for the wood used from 832 BC. BC to 813 BC Together with the neighboring settlement at Chindrieux , this marks the most recent phase of Bronze Age settlements on Lac du Bourget.
At Portout there was a settlement during Roman times that was the subject of extensive excavations in the 1970s and 80s. Conjux was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century under the name Conziacum . Later the names Congiacum (1481), Conjeu (1723) and Congieux (1729) appeared. The place name comes from the Gallo-Roman family name congius back.
Attractions
The village church of Conjux was built in the 19th century in neo -Gothic style and has a wooden statue of the Madonna and Child from the 14th century. The local residents of Conjux are called Conjuxien (ne) s in French .
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Conjux was a village dominated by agriculture and fishing; these industries have now completely disappeared. Instead, there are now some local small businesses. The employed are commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area, especially in the Aix-les-Bains and Chambéry areas.
The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Lucey to Chindrieux. Other road connections exist with Saint-Pierre-de-Curtille and the Abbaye de Hautecombe . The closest connection to the A41 motorway is around 23 km away.
