Greg Gibson
Gregory "Greg" P. Gibson (born November 20, 1953 in Stafford , Stafford County ) is a retired American wrestler .
Career
Greg Gibson attended Shasta High School and from 1972 the University of Oregon . He was an excellent wrestler and American football player at both institutions . In 1974/75 he even played two seasons as a professional football player. Ultimately, however, he decided to wrestle when he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1977. He started in both styles, Greco-Roman and freestyle. He was multiple USA champion and used from 1980 by the American Wrestling Association in both styles at many international championships. His greatest achievement was winning the silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles . In addition, he won three other medals at world championships. A title win at world championships, however, did not succeed.
After finishing his career as an active wrestler, he received a position as a trainer in the Marine Corps and is a Master-Sgt. stationed at Marine Corps Base Quantico . In 2007 he was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame for his services to wrestling .
