Lorenzo Carboncini (born September 22, 1976 in Empoli ) is a former Italian rower who won an Olympic medal and eleven world championship medals.

Athletic career

At the Junior World Championships in 1993, the 1.91 m tall Carboncini took second place in the four-man with helmsman , and in 1994 he was second in the double- four . At the 1994 World Championships in the adult class, Carboncini rowed eighth in the Italian and finished ninth. The following year, Carboncini won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Tampere with the Italian four-man with helmsman . At the 1996 Olympic Games , Carboncini rowed eighth in the Italian and came in ninth.

In 1997 and 2001 Carboncini competed in two and was each runner-up. In the other years until 2003, Carboncini rowed in a four-man without a helmsman and won the Olympic silver medal in 2000 and three bronze medals at world championships in this boat class. After six years with a medal at the season's highlight, the series broke at the 2003 World Championships in front of a home crowd in Milan. Carboncini missed the 2004 Olympic Games, but won his only world title in 2004 in the non-Olympic boat class four with helmsman.

From 2005 to 2007 Carboncini won three silver medals at world championships, at the 2008 Olympic Games Carboncini only achieved eleventh place in the four without a helmsman. From 2010, Carboncini rowed in two without a helmsman with Niccolò Mornati , with whom he won two silver medals at European championships and one bronze medal at the 2011 world championships. At Lorenzo Carboncini's last international appearance, the two finished fourth at the 2012 Olympic Games .
