Francesco Fossi

Francesco Fossi (born April 15, 1988 in Florence ) is an Italian rower .

Athletic career

Fossi started eighth at the 2004 Junior World Championships and finished ninth, at the 2005 Junior World Championships and at the 2006 Junior World Championships , he won the silver medal in the four-man with helmsman . In 2007 Fossi made his debut in the Rowing World Cup and took third place in Lucerne with the controlled foursome. With the eighth he took eleventh place at the U23 World Championships in 2007 and with the four with helmsman he took sixth place at the world championships in the adult class. In 2008 Fossi won the U23 World Championship title with the controlled foursome, followed by the silver medal in 2009. In the adult class, Fossi finished eighth at the 2009 World Championships and fifth at the European Championships . In his final U23 year, Fossi won the title at the U23 World Championships in 2010 in a four without a helmsman . In the same boat class, he finished fourth at the European Championships and sixth at the World Championships . In 2011, the Italian four-man without a helmsman took tenth place at the World Championships . The European Championships were Mario Paonessa , Francesco Fossi, Luca Agamennoni and Andrea Palmisano the bronze medal.

In 2012 Fossi switched from oar rowing to scull rowing . At the 2012 Olympics , Fossi finished eleventh with the Italian double scull. In 2013 Fossi moved to Romano Battisti in the double scull , at the European Championships in Seville the two won the title at the beginning of the 2013 season. After a second place behind the New Zealand double scull at the World Cup in Lucerne, the two Italians received the bronze medal at the 2013 World Championships behind the boats from Norway and Lithuania. In 2014 the Croatian brothers Martin and Valent Sinković won the title at the world championships ahead of Battisti and Fossi. In 2015 the Italians finished third and fourth in the World Cup, but with tenth place at the World Championships they only narrowly managed to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games . At the 2016 Olympic Games Battisti and Fossi finished fourth.
