Mario Paonessa

Mario Paonessa (born December 9, 1990 in Vico Equense ) is an Italian rower . He rowed a bronze medal at the world championships in 2016 and 2017, a silver medal at the European championships in 2012 and a bronze medal in 2011.

Athletic career

Mario Paonessa started rowing in 2000. At the Junior World Championships in 2007 , he finished fourth with eighth . A year later, he won the bronze medal in the quadruple scull at the 2008 Junior World Championships . In 2009 he finished sixth with Domenico De Cristofaro in the two-man without helmsman at the U23 World Championships . At the European Championships in the same year he entered in a pair with Andrea Tranquilli and reached tenth place. In 2010 Paonessa rowed in the Italian eighth in the Rowing World Cup . At the U23 World Championships he formed a four-man without a helmsman with Francesco Fossi , Vincenzo Capelli and Andrea Palmisano , the crew won the U23 title. In the same line-up, the four-man also started at the European Championships in Montemor and finished fourth, and at the end of the season the Italians finished sixth at the 2010 World Championships . At the U23 World Championships in 2011, the Italian four-man without a helmsman competed with Marco Di Costanzo , Maria Paonessa, Simone Ponti and Giuseppe Vicino and won the silver medal behind the German boat. Five weeks later, at the 2011 World Championships , Mario Paonessa, Francesco Fossi, Luca Agamennoni and Andrea Palmisano rowed to tenth place and were the sixth best European team. Two weeks later, the four Italians won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Plovdiv . At the 2012 Olympic Games on Dorney Lake, Paonessa also competed in a foursome. The 1.90 m tall Mario Paonessa is a member of the Guardia di Finanza and their sports association Fiamme Gialle .
