Simone Venier

Simone Venier (born August 26, 1984 in Latina ) is an Italian rower who was second in the 2008 Olympic quadruple sculls .

Career

Venier began rowing in 1994. In 2001 he finished third at the Junior World Championships with the Italian four-four , and the boat won the title the following year. In 2004, the 1.96 m tall Venier belonged to the Italian double foursome in the adult class and finished tenth at the Olympic Games in Athens . In 2006 Venier won the bronze medal in eighth at the U23 World Championships , shortly afterwards he finished fourth at the World Championships in Eton with the double foursome . In 2007 Venier competed at the World Championships in double sculls and finished in eighteenth place with Jean Smerghetto. At the European Championships in 2007 , the Italian double scull with Luca Ghezzi , Federico Gattinoni , Venier and Simone Raineri took second place behind the Russian boat.

In the 2008 Olympic year, the Italian double foursome consisted of Luca Agamennoni , Simone Venier, Rossano Galtarossa and Simone Raineri . The boat won the World Cup regatta in Poznan and took second place behind the Polish boat at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. After a weak year in 2009, the Italian double scull achieved second place behind the Croatian double scull at the 2010 World Cup opener in Bled. At the European Championships in 2010 , the Italian boat took sixth place, at the World Championships in New Zealand , Luca Agamennoni, Simone Venier, Matteo Stefanini and Simone Raineri won the silver medal behind the Croatians. In 2011, the Italian four-four reached sixth place at the World Championships in Bled and fourth place at the European Championships in Plovdiv . At the 2012 Olympic Games , Venier took eighth place with the Italian four-man without a helmsman .

In 2013 he returned to the double fours. In the line-up of Matteo Stefanini, Simone Venier, Luca Rambaldi and Simone Raineri, the boat won bronze at the European Championships . At the World Championships in 2013 , the Italian double scull reached seventh place. In 2014 with a 16th place at the World Championships and in 2015 with a tenth place at the World Championships , the Italian double foursome was not very successful. In 2016, Venier came eighth and finished seventh at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .

Simone Venier is the son of the rower Annibale Venier .
