At the 2008 Summer Olympics , 14 rowing competitions were held, six for women and eight for men. Each NOK was allowed to send a maximum of one boat per competition, provided that they could fight for a quota place in various qualifying places in 2007 and 2008. The main qualification competition was the 2007 World Championships (WM) in Munich .

qualification

In order to participate in the 2008 Olympic rowing regatta , a qualification was necessary that could be achieved in advance in various international rowing regattas . Starting places for 544 participants in 200 boats and 14 boat classes were provided as part of the regular qualification path . In addition, two starting places were provided for the one of the men and women for the host nation in the event that it would not have qualified in any boat class, as well as starting places for four participants invited by the World Rowing Association .

The main qualification competition was the 2007 World Rowing Championships at the Oberschleißheim regatta course in Munich . Further starting places could be won in continental regattas in Africa, Asia and Latin America as well as in an international qualification as part of the World Cup regatta 2008 on Lake Malta in Poznan .

Each NOK was allowed to register exactly one boat in each boat class in which the qualification was achieved. However, individual rowers were allowed to start in more than one boat class (double start), which was also done by six athletes. In the case of a qualification in all 14 boat classes so could a maximum of 28 men and 20 women per nation participate (each including a helmsman / controller woman).

  3. Double start by Georgeta Andrunache and Viorica Susanu
  4. Double start by Anna Cummins

The starting places reserved for the host were given to other nations because of the qualifications of the People's Republic of China in 11 boat classes. Nuria Domínguez was allowed to start in the women's one for Spain , while Ioannis Christou competed in the men's one for Greece .

The four participants invited by the World Rowing Federation were Norberto Bernárdez for Honduras and Mathias Raymond for Monaco in the men's singles and Hamzah Al-Hilfi and Haider Nawzad for Iraq in the men's double sculls .

The men's double scull from Bulgaria with Iwo Janakiew and Martin Janakiew and the lightweight double scull for the men from Canada with Douglas Vandor and Cameron Sylvester were invited to start.

Olympic regatta

In each boat class, the first eight places are listed with the final time because they have received an Olympic diploma. The A-final was occupied by six boats each, which is why positions 7 and 8 in the B-final were achieved (marking (B) after the final time).

The German women's eighth did not have to row in the B-final, as only seven teams took part in the women's eighth and the seventh place was therefore fixed even without the final.
