Sławomir Kruszkowski (born October 14, 1975 in Toruń , Poland ) is a former Polish rower .

Career

Kruszkowski began rowing in 1990. At the age of 18 he first started in international title competitions when he took part in the Junior World Championships in two-man in Norway and finished 7th. He then went through the junior division of the adult class and took part in the Nations Cup in 1994, 1996 and 1997 , the then unofficial U23 world championships, and won two silver medals.

In the 1998 season Kruszkowski found connection in the open age group. He started in a foursome with a helmsman at the World Championships in Cologne, finishing in seventh place. In the following season he switched to the scull area and became a regular in the double foursome . At the 1999 World Championships he rowed to 11th place in this boat class, at least eighth at the Olympic Summer Games in Sydney together with Karol Łazar , Adam Bronikowski and Michał Wojciechowski .

In the time after Sydney, Kruszkowski continued his career in quadruples. At the 2001 World Championships , the partially re-formed team already reached the A-final, after which they closed up to the top of the world with the silver medal at the 2002 World Championships and the bronze medal in the pre-Olympic year 2003 . In the unchanged line-up of Adam Bronikowski, Marek Kolbowicz , Sławomir Kruszkowski and Adam Korol , the Polish double foursome also competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics , where he finished fourth with a gap of just 0.07 seconds.

Kruszkowski switched to the belt area in the new Olympic cycle and qualified for eighth . In the four years before the Beijing Games, he was able to regularly place in the A final of the World Championships. At the World Championships in Japan in 2005 , he took 5th place, the following year at the Rowing World Championships in Eton, 6th place. In Munich 2007 , another fifth place followed, and Kruszkowski and the Polish eighth came first with the silver medal at the reintroduced European Championships in Poznan Podium placement. The qualification for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing also succeeded. With Sebastian Kosiorek , Michał Stawowski , Patryk Brzeziński , Sławomir Kruszkowski, Wojciech Gutorski , Marcin Brzeziński , Rafał Hejmej , batsman Mikołaj Burda and helmsman Daniel Trojanowski , the Polish team reached the final and took 5th place.

In the years that followed, the large boat underwent a change in personnel, in which younger rowers found space in the crew. In 2009, however, Kruszkowski was initially able to hold a place in eighth and finished fourth at the World Championships in Poznan. In the following season, however, after three appearances in the Rowing World Cup, he was no longer considered for international title fights, so he ended his career.

Kruszkowski started for the AZS Toruń club . With a height of 1.98 m, his competition weight was around 101 kg.
