European Rowing Championships

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

European rowing championships are competitions for European national teams held by the world rowing association FISA to determine the European rowing champions . The first European championships were held in 1893. Since then, this competition has been held annually with small interruptions due to the world wars, and since 1954 also for women. When the rowing world championships were introduced in 1962 , European championships were held for women only in the world championship and Olympic years. Since from 1974 the world championships were held annually and also for women, there were no more European championships.

After a break of more than 30 years, the European Championships were reintroduced in 2007 and have been held annually in the Olympic boat classes since then. Since 2011 there have also been Junior European Championships, the first of which took place in Kruszwica , Poland .
