history
A regatta course was planned before the 2004 Summer Olympics , but it was only this that made it possible to realize it early and comprehensively. The first competitions took place in August 2003 . At the 2003 Junior World Rowing Championships, a strong Meltemi north wind caused considerable problems. Numerous boats capsized and races had to be canceled. The center was completed at the end of January 2004 for the upcoming 2004 Summer Olympics and has been used continuously as a regatta course ever since. In 2008 the European Rowing Championships took place in the center .
Trivia
The complex is the setting of a novel in the series Kommissar Kostas Charitos by Petros Markaris . Pakistani emigrants meet at the lake to fish and find a body there.
