The Olympic Baseball Center consists of two baseball stadiums and two training fields. The facility was built for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens .

Geographical location

The Olympic Baseball Center is located in the Elliniko Olympic Complex , which was built on the site of the former Athens-Ellinikon Airport . The baseball facility is located 12 kilometers south of Athens city center, in the suburb of Elliniko .

The two baseball stadiums can be reached by tram. The Elliniko stop is served by the T3 and T5 lines.

The baseball center consists of two stadiums. The larger one held 8,700 spectators for the Olympic Games, and 4,000 spectators after the conversion to a football stadium. The smaller stadium had 2100 seats. During the Olympic Games, however, the spectator capacity was limited to 6700 and 3300 respectively.

The Olympic Baseball Center was built for the 2004 Summer Olympics. The construction work was finished on February 27, 2004, the opening took place shortly before the games on August 12, 2004. The Olympic Baseball Center was the venue for the baseball competitions of the 2004 Summer Olympics. After the Olympic Games, the facility remained unused, and the stands of the smaller field have since been dismantled. In 2007, the large field was converted into a football stadium with a capacity for 9,000 spectators and the football club Ethnikos Piraeus moved into the facility now known as Elliniko Stadium . In 2014 the football club moved out of the stadium again because they could not agree on the conditions for further use.

After the last use as a football stadium, the baseball stadiums remained unused and fell into disrepair. In 2016 the larger stadium was used as refugee accommodation.
