The Jezioro Maltańskie ( German Maltasee or Maltesersee ) is a lake in the Polish city of Posen , which got its name from the Knights of Malta who lived nearby in the Middle Ages . The lake is artificially created and was created in 1952 when the Cybina River was dammed .
Regatta course
The regatta course was laid out in 1990 and, with a length of 2000 meters and a width of 175 meters, meets the requirements of the World Rowing Federation (FISA) for international regattas .
In 1995 the junior world championships , in 2004 the U23 world championships and in 2009 the rowing world championships were held on the lake . In 2013 the European University Rowing Championships took place there.
The lake is also used for canoe racing, for example in 1996 the European Junior Championships took place in Poznan.
Leisure facilities
There are several leisure facilities near the lake:
- The 3.8 kilometer long Maltanka park railway runs along the northern lake shore.
- On the south bank is the Malta-Ski sports and recreation center , which includes a year-round ski slope and a summer toboggan run, as well as a mini golf course, on the partially rebuilt "Freedom Hill" (copy Wolności).
- The New Zoo is located on the eastern shore of the lake.
